In this program we will start by briefly exploring the history of monsters in art and their impact
on pop culture. We will then explore some contemporary artists who are using representations
of monsters and creatures to disrupt social norms surrounding identity; queering monstrosity
and exploring monstrous mythologies beyond the European lens.
We will spend the rest of our time creating our own monster/creature. Participants will work in
drawing, painting, collage or sculpture to produce and creature that reflects their personal
interests. Participants will be invited to build a mythology around their monster to share with
the group but this is optional.
