Description

Hop on board the CSS Acadia for another term with Boat School and Sea School! In this program youth will be introduced to the basics of carpentry, including measuring, marking, cutting with hand saws, using a chisel, drills etc. Participants will learn how to build and decorate small wooden structures and will also create crafty ropey projects using fishing rope collected by Coast Action, a organization that works to protect and restore the environment through research, education, action and community engagement.

Please note that youth will use a variety of hand tools in this program including chisels, saws, hammers, drills and sewing needles.

Accessibility Note: The CSS Acadia is a 112-year-old ship, which makes it a pretty unique place to learn—but it also means there are a few things to keep in mind when coming on board. To get to the workshop area, you’ll step up onto a ramp, climb through a doorway, and head down two flights of wooden stairs. If this might be tricky for you or raises any questions, we’d love to chat and find ways to support your participation. Please feel free to reach out!
