Join us on June 20th as we head to the NSCAD Treaty Space Gallery for a tour of their space and to join in for an indigenous beading activity. The purpose of this trip is to give youth the opportunity to learn more about the Treaty Space Gallery and participate in an Indigenous art workshop that is run by the Treaty Space. The Treaty Space offers many workshops and exhibitions that spotlight indigenous artists and traditional indigenous practices. There is no cost associated with this event.
Youth are asked to meet at the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning (50 Queen Street) at 3:30pm on Friday, June 20th. We will take the Halifax Transit Ferry from The MacPhee Centre to NSCAD (1887 Granville St, Halifax) and will arrive between 4:00pm and 4:15pm. Bus tickets will be provided, but we ask youth with bus passes to please bring them along. After we will leave NSCAD at 7:00pm and arrive back at the MacPhee Centre by 7:30pm. (Youth are also welcome to take the bus directly home at 7:30pm).
The “Branching Out” program is designed to take young people on immersive trips to engage with and learn from Black and Indigenous communities around the HRM and across Nova Scotia. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with historical and traditional activities, and learn about the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of these communities. The program aims to foster understanding, respect, and appreciation for diversity, while empowering youth to become ambassadors of cultural awareness and social justice.
